THC Vs. CBD: What’s the Difference?

THC Vs. CBD: What’s the Difference?

Among hundreds of different cannabinoids THC and CBD are beyond the most well-known, so let’s take a look at what they are.

THC and CBD are cannabinoids, which are naturally occurring compounds found in the bud you smoke. There are a lot more cannabinoids found in green, but these two are the most commonly known.

So what are they, and what makes them so popular?

Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC)

Tetrahydrocannabinol - also known as 'THC' - to put simply, is what makes you feel high when you smoke.

Yup, that all too familiar feeling you get after a quick puff-puff-pass (you know, the one that makes your head feel hit with a happy brick?) is predominantly thanks to our little friend THC, which probably explains a little already as to why the compound is so damn famous.

It's pretty simple - the more THC you ingest, the stronger the high and stronger the effects you'll feel. For advanced smokers looking for a potent hit, a THC Dominant strain is ideal.

That being said, more effects can mean heightened risk of experiencing other effects, such as anxiety.

Cannabidiol (CBD)

Cannabidiol, more commonly referred to as 'CBD' has rapidly gained popularity in recent years thanks to its therapeutic properties that, if ingested without THC, come without the psychoactive effects listed above.

For individuals who aren't looking to get high when they smoke - or aren't even looking to smoke at all - they can source CBD in a variety of available forms to help with things like anxiety and paranoia, and it's even been known to dramatically decrease the side effects of a number of mental health conditions.

So, how does this help you?

Once you understand these two main cannabinoids you're going to find in your bud, you can start making decisions on how you want to access them.

You can find a number of balanced THC-CBD strains, and these are often the more popular choices for recreational smokers.

We're all different, and have different tolerance levels. If you're a new smoker it's better to start with a strain that has weaker THC levels and work your way up.

It's always best to get advice from your budtender based on what you're looking for, and any concerns you have about different side effects.

What Are Terpenes?

Amy Wilkinson

If there’s one thing distinct to bud other than its high, it’s that sweet skunky smell: eau de Mary-Jane. This can be, for the most part, credited to our dear, aromatic friends, terpenes. These chemical compounds hold an aromatic fragrance in not just bud, but many fruits, flowers, and plants.

Meet The Bong: Your New BFF

Amy Wilkinson

The bong. We all know it, but weirdly, few of us - as big a self-proclaimed stoner as we might be - have ever really embraced its prevalence in the world of smoking. But, worry not. We’re here to break down the stigmas against the bong and fight the bizarrely random cancel culture that society imposed on this traditionally quirky inhalation device.

Amsterdam is a beautiful city in the winter, and one of Europe’s hot spots for Christmas city breaks. With travel routes being open once again this year, here’s what you can expect when you visit us this Christmas.

Bud & Alcohol: Friends or Foes?

Amy Wilkinson

To start with, let’s talk about the big boozy, leafy elephant in the room: are green and alcohol just, straight up, an awful mix? While it’s not advised to drink many units of alcohol at the same time as smoking joints, many people can and do enjoy a light smoke with one or two alchohol-based drinks. But, there’s a good reason you won’t find many coffeeshops around that offer both booze and bud, and that’s the dark and dreary outcome that most who mix the two will likely encounter at some point in their lives.

What Are Cannabinoids?

Amy Wilkinson

Cannabinoids: what are they? So to cover this, we’ve got to get a little scientific here for a quick minute: cannabinoids are naturally occurring compounds found in bud, and although THC and CBD are the most commonly known cannabinoids, there are actually over 450 compounds and more than 60 cannabinoids found in the plant.

First and foremost, it feels pretty imperative to clarify any dangers that may or may not occur when you smoke: If you’ve had a few hits and you’re not feeling good, it’s important to remember not to panic.

Amy Wilkinson
